The Resident Minister South, Chief John Abu, has briefed journalists in Bo City on the outcome of his recent investment mission to Sri Lanka and addressed emerging security concerns in parts of the Southern Region.

Speaking at the Provincial Secretary’s Office on Wednesday, Chief Abu said government is aware of reports of alleged unlawful activities linked to secret society operations, particularly in Lugbu Chiefdom, Bo District, and Jong Chiefdom, Bonthe District.
He noted that the situation has caused concern among residents, including foreign nationals and prospective investors.
The Minister emphasized that traditional practices must operate within the confines of the law and assured the public that government will take appropriate steps to maintain peace and security in affected communities.
On his week-long visit to Sri Lanka, Chief Abu said the mission was aimed at engaging potential investors and development partners to support Sierra Leone’s economic transformation.
He disclosed that discussions focused on key sectors such as agriculture, mining, infrastructure, water supply, and sanitation.
According to him, meetings with private companies and business institutions were encouraging, with several investors expressing interest in visiting Sierra Leone to explore investment opportunities.
Chief Abu revealed that EOAS Organic Limited, a Sri Lankan company involved in organic spices, herbs, and fruit production, and Goldex Global, a mining firm operating in several African countries, have shown interest in investing in Sierra Leone.
He also said the International Chamber of Commerce has indicated readiness to mobilize investors for the country.
The Minister explained that the visit followed an invitation from Sri Lankan investor Dr. Sayuru G. Samarasundera, who already has business interests in Sierra Leone.
He concluded by reaffirming government’s commitment to attracting private sector investment and partnerships to drive economic growth and job creation in line with the President’s development agenda.
