SLRSA Cracks Down on Unregistered Garages along Waterloo–Masiaka Highway

The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has launched a major operation to remove unregistered motor garages and roadside repair shops along the busy Waterloo–Masiaka corridor.

The move aims to improve road safety and ease traffic congestion.

Speaking at Camp Junction in Waterloo, SLRSA Deputy Executive Director Josie Abraham Scott-Manga said makeshift garages have become common along the highway, often parking vehicles, motorcycles, and tricycles on the roadside while storing spare parts.

“These unregulated operations obstruct traffic flow and create serious safety hazards,” she explained.

Scott-Manga noted that the crackdown aligns with the Road Traffic Act, which requires all garages and repair shops to be properly registered and licensed to meet safety, environmental, and operational standards.

He added that the enforcement will reduce accident risks and decongest major roadways.

The SLRSA urged all motor garages to comply with registration requirements and promised continued enforcement to ensure safer transport corridors nationwide.
