President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), Alhaji Manika Kamara, has called on journalists to go beyond public relations and tell real, impactful stories as the 2025 European Union and Government of Sierra Leone Bus Tour was officially launched.

Speaking at the launch, the SLAJ President welcomed the venture and described it as a valuable opportunity for journalists to travel into remote communities, engage with citizens, and report on both the progress and the challenges facing the country.
“This tour is not only about showcasing the EU’s work in Sierra Leone. It’s a chance for journalists to speak with the people, listen to their experiences, and tell the stories that matter,” he added.
He reminded journalists of their responsibility to give voice to the voiceless, stressing the importance of accurate and balanced reporting to support transparency, accountability, and national development.

“The media thrives on credible information. Our role is not just to promote achievements, but to highlight the full picture; the successes and the struggles.”
Alhaji Manika Kamara also reaffirmed SLAJ’s commitment to partnering with development agencies to ensure journalists have the access and support they need to do their job effectively.
The two-week EU-Government of Sierra Leone Bus Tour will travel across all regions of the country, identifying projects that are driving development, improving lives, and building stronger communities.
“We have made significant strides in transforming our country. But development is a collective effort, and the diaspora remains a crucial part of our national journey. I encourage you to be ambassadors for Sierra Leone; to promote our story and contribute meaningfully to our progress.”
The President also emphasized Sierra Leone’s increasing visibility and leadership on the global stage, noting the country’s growing influence in international forums and partnerships.

In response, community leaders expressed admiration for the reforms and tangible improvements seen under President Bio’s administration.
Many praised his government’s focus on human capital development and commitment to good governance.
This engagement is part of the President’s broader strategy to deepen ties with Sierra Leoneans living abroad, recognizing the diaspora as an essential driver of investment, innovation, and social development.
The meeting concluded with renewed calls for collaboration between the diaspora and the government, aiming to build a stronger, more prosperous Sierra Leone for all.
