Sierra Leone’s U-17 girls have made history by winning the maiden WAFU-A U-17 Girls Tournament, emerging as champions after a dominant run in Monrovia, Liberia.

The young Lionesses finished top of the table with 10 points and 10 goals, winning three matches and drawing one:
Sierra Leone 4-1 Liberia
Sierra Leone 3-0 Liberia
Sierra Leone 2-1 Senegal
Sierra Leone 1-1 Senegal

This shows Sierra Leone’s first-ever WAFU-A U-17 title, a huge milestone for the sport in the country.
Beyond team success, several players earned top individual honours:
- Hawa Morison – Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament
- Marian Sankoh – Most Valuable Player & Two-time Woman of the Match
- Ruth Bawoh – Woman of the Match
- Sarah Turay – Tournament’s Top Scorer (3 goals) & Woman of the Match
The players’ performance throughout the tournament showcased skill, determination, and unity, signaling a bright future for women’s football in Sierra Leone.
The champions returned home on Sunday, with a grand welcome to celebrate their success.
