The National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) has released its Provisional Annual Report on Vital Events for the year ending 31 December 2025, detailing births, deaths, marriages, divorces, and adoptions recorded across Sierra Leone.

According to the report, a total of 306,057 live births were registered, with 149,968 males (49%) and 156,089 females (51%), giving a sex ratio of 96. Additionally, 3,739 stillbirths were recorded during the year.
The report shows that 17,905 deaths occurred, with 57% males and 43% females. Of these, 5,652 deaths (32%) were among people aged 60 and above, while 2,697 (15%) were children aged 0–4 years.
In terms of marriages, 755 unions were registered, including 408 (54%) Christian marriages, 174 (23%) Islamic marriages, 128 (17%) civil marriages, and 45 (6%) customary marriages. Meanwhile, 60 divorces were recorded, mostly from civil (35%) and Christian (30%) marriages.
The Authority also recorded 160 adoption cases, with 99 girls (62%) and 61 boys (38%). Most adoptions involved children aged 13–17 years (39%), followed by ages 5–12 (37%) and 0–4 (24%).
The NCRA emphasized the importance of timely registration of births, deaths, marriages, divorces, adoptions, and nullities to ensure accurate population records and effective planning for the country.
