On Tuesday, 17 February 2026, the Ministry of Information and Civic Education held its weekly Government Press Conference at the Miatta Civic Centre, where key national issues, including the fight against corruption were discussed.

Addressing the public, Patrick Sandi, Coordinator of Operations at the Anti-Corruption Commission, highlighted notable progress made in strengthening transparency and accountability in Sierra Leone.

Mr. Sandi cited the Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), noting that Sierra Leone improved its global ranking by five places, moving from 114 in 2024 to 109 in 2025.

He also underscored the country’s sustained strong performance on the Millennium Challenge Corporation Control of Corruption Index, where Sierra Leone has maintained a score above 70 percent for seven consecutive years.

In furtherance of ongoing reforms, Mr. Sandi announced that Whistleblower and Witness Protection Regulations are currently being developed to enhance the effectiveness of anti-corruption efforts.

He assured the public that the proposed regulations would guarantee the safety and confidentiality of witnesses, stressing that witness protection under the framework cannot be compromised.

He concluded by encouraging citizens to actively support the fight against corruption by reporting corrupt practices to the Commission.
