By Hajaratu S. Bangura The Public Sector Reform Unit (PSRU) has presented a comprehensive Management and Functional Review (MFR) report aimed at overhauling the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC). The report, handed to the Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, outlines recommendations to strengthen governance, improve operational efficiency, and enhance service delivery at the national broadcaster

The review, conducted under Recommendation 77 of the Tripartite Agreement between the Government, the All People’s Congress (APC), and donor partners, assessed SLBC’s management structures, financial health, human resource systems, and operational capacity. It identified challenges including weak governance, overlapping roles, outdated equipment, limited training, and restricted financial autonomy.
PSRU Head Sulaiman Phoray Musa said the reform proposals, developed through staff consultations, focus groups, and detailed operational analysis, are designed to restore public confidence and position SLBC as a modern, independent, and responsive public broadcaster.
Minister Bah welcomed the report and pledged the Ministry’s commitment to implementing the recommendations. He also requested PSRU’s support to modernize the Government Printer, improving government communications. Both parties agreed to meet next week to discuss practical steps for implementation.
The MFR report is part of the Ministry’s broader reform agenda to modernize state communication institutions and ensure SLBC fulfills its mandate as a credible and professional broadcaster.
