Prank Calls to Fire Lines Now Criminalized

The National Fire Force has provided updates on the new Fire Safety Bill, which seeks to assess and reduce fire risks to a tolerable level.

Bintu Fatmata Kamara, Esq., the Legal Officer at the National Fire Force, explained that the Bill contains 58 sections, highlighting Section 8, which empowers the Chief Fire Officer to recommend additional fire hydrants, and Section 9, which criminalizes prank calls to emergency lines.

The Bill aims to prevent fire hazards, raise public awareness, and promote proactive safety measures.

Madam Kamara also said efforts are underway to popularize the Bill nationwide, gather citizen input, and ensure it is presented to Parliament for approval.

She further shared the National Fire Force toll-free numbers for reporting emergencies: Central – 300, Kissy Eastern – 301, Western – 302, and Far East — 309, available on all mobile networks.
