Police officers attached to the Anvil Division have discovered 37 cartons of tramadol at the cargo warehouse of the Freetown International Airport following a tip-off.

The discovery was made on Tuesday, 6 December 2026, during an operation led by the Local Unit Commander, Mrs. Cecilia Akiebo Cole, as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and the circulation of illicit substances in the country.
Acting swiftly on the information received, the police conducted a search at the airport’s cargo facility, where the consignment of tramadol was uncovered.
Police sources said the seizure represents the second-largest drug interception by the Anvil Division within the past two days, highlighting intensified operations against illegal drugs.
The exhibits, along with one suspect, have been transferred to the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) headquarters in Hastings, Freetown, for further investigation.
The Sierra Leone Police say operations against drug trafficking remain ongoing, particularly at key entry points into the country.
