Parliament Ratifies Key Trade and Investment Agreements

The Parliament of Sierra Leone has unanimously ratified several trade and investment agreements, including a major deal with JOLAKS Manufacturing Company Limited.

Presenting the agreements, Minister of Trade Alpha Ibrahim Sesay described them as a boost for business and economic growth.

He said JOLAKS, established in 2012 to produce vegetable oil, plans to diversify production and invest about $45 million, creating more employment opportunities nationwide.

The company has already generated over 700 jobs and operates at a capacity of 3,000 metric tons per day.

Several Members of Parliament emphasized the agreements’ potential to create jobs, protect infant industries, and strengthen corporate social responsibility.

Concerns were raised about community engagement, staff training, and environmental compliance, which the Minister assured Parliament would be addressed.

In addition to the JOLAKS agreement, Parliament ratified other deals, including a long-term partnership with Rainforest Builder (SL) Limited and multiple ECOWAS aviation agreements covering market access, tariffs, safety, and passenger rights.

The approvals reflect the Government’s commitment to attracting investment, supporting local industries, and fostering economic development in Sierra Leone.
