The Parliament of Sierra Leone joined the global celebration of Cyber Security Awareness Month on Tuesday, 7 October 2025, with an event held at the Parliament Building.

Mohamed Lebbie, Head of the Parliamentary Cyber Security Unit, stressed the importance of protecting data and preventing cyber attacks. He urged staff to avoid clicking on unknown links and to regularly change passwords using a mix of numbers, letters, and symbols to enhance security.
Deputy Clerk of Parliament, Gilbert Bosco N’habay, highlighted the need for vigilance in building a strong digital system for Sierra Leone’s Parliament. He called on staff and citizens to work together to prevent cyber threats.
Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Patrick M. Gibrilla, praised government efforts under President Bio’s leadership, including the Cyber Security Act of 2021 and the creation of a national cyber security coordination centre. He emphasized that digital safety is a national responsibility beyond politics.
The event was moderated by Sheku Lamin Turay, Director of Parliamentary and Public Relations, who called for the enactment of a data protection law to further safeguard digital information.
The Parliament reaffirmed its commitment to leading the fight against cyber attacks and promoting awareness for all Sierra Leoneans.
