The Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Mrs. Nabeela Farida Tunis, has called for greater collaboration among stakeholders to strengthen Sierra Leone’s tourism sector during the National Coastal Unity Boat Race.
The event, held on 4–5 April 2026 at Chapter One Beach Front, Aberdeen, brought together 16 coastal communities in a vibrant display of unity, culture, and community pride.
Organized by the Ministry in partnership with the GEED Foundation, the competition attracted large crowds who cheered, sang, and danced in support of their communities.

At the end of the race, Kissy Ferry Terminal emerged as the winner, receiving NLe 50,000, while Susan’s Bay was first runner-up with NLe 40,000, and Moa Wharf placed second runner-up, earning NLe 30,000.
Mohamed Gatewa, Public Relations Officer for Kissy Ferry Terminal, thanked the Ministry and Dr. Ekundayo Walton Gilpin for recognizing coastal communities, emphasizing that such initiatives bring hope and opportunity to often-deprived areas.
