MoF Holds 2026 Strategic Retreat to Consolidate 2025 Gains

The leadership and senior management staff of the Ministry of Finance commenced a three-day Strategic Management Retreat on Thursday, 15th January 2026. The retreat aims to review the achievements and challenges of 2025 and to examine the Ministry’s Strategic Plan for 2024–2026.

In his opening remarks, Financial Secretary Matthew Dingie welcomed his colleagues, noting that the retreat provides an opportunity to reassess the Ministry’s performance, as well as that of its departments, and to strategize for the New Year, 2026.

He further stated that, although 2025 posed several challenges, the economic management team had met nearly all its macroeconomic targets by year-end. He commended the staff of the Ministry of Finance and other institutions within the economic management team for their efforts in achieving benchmarks and targets in collaboration with development partners, thereby creating potential avenues for additional resources.

Matthew Dingie also emphasized that it is the Ministry of Finance’s responsibility to mobilize the resources needed to fund government programmes and projects. He highlighted that this responsibility informed the retreat’s theme: “Repositioning the Ministry of Finance to Enhance Domestic Revenue Mobilisation for Sustainable Economic Stability and Service Delivery.”

He urged directors to develop policies and programmes for 2026 that will contribute to the Government’s Big Five agenda.

Deputy Minister of Finance I, Kadiatu Allie, stressed that the retreat should serve as a period of reflection on the Ministry’s achievements and challenges, and how to improve performance. She added that the retreat should strengthen leadership on accountability and transparency, assess gains in budget credibility and processes, improve debt management and revenue mobilization, deepen financial and macroeconomic reforms, enhance expenditure management, and promote impactful social spending on education, health, agriculture, and local councils.

The three-day retreat includes presentations on the attributes of good leadership and professionalism by Consultant Modupe Taylor-Pearce, discussions on the revised Civil Service Code and Rules, a review of the Strategic Plan, briefings on economic programmes with development partners, and other administrative matters.
