Koidu Maternal Centre Runs Pre-Opening Simulations

Clinical simulation exercises are currently being conducted at the Maternal Centre of Excellence in Koidu as preparations continue for the start of inpatient services on Saturday, 14th February 2026.

The exercises are designed to test operational readiness, strengthen clinical workflows, and ensure staff are fully prepared to provide safe and efficient maternal healthcare.

By simulating real-life scenarios, healthcare teams are improving coordination and response ahead of the official opening.

The Centre will serve as a national referral facility for maternal and child health, expanding access to specialized care for families across Sierra Leone.

The initiative supports the Ministry of Health’s efforts, under Honourable Minister Dr. Austin Demby, to reduce maternal and child mortality and improve healthcare outcomes nationwide.

Once operational, the Maternal Centre of Excellence will provide high-quality services for mothers and newborns in Koidu and surrounding regions, marking a major step forward in Sierra Leone’s health sector
