Hon. Mrs. Justice Amy Juliet Wright, a Judge of the High Court of Sierra Leone, has resigned from her position.

Her resignation comes amid rumours of dissatisfaction over transfers to provincial courts.

Sources suggest that the recent proposed transfers to other provinces may have influenced her decision to step down.

In a letter to President Julius Maada Bio, Justice Wright cited her retirement from the judiciary, referencing the constitutional provision allowing judges to retire after reaching 60 years of age.

She expressed gratitude for the privilege of serving her country and mirrored on her contributions to Sierra Leone’s judicial system.

Her resignation letter was also sent to key judicial and government officials, including the Chief Justice, the Secretary to the Judicial and Legal Service Commission, the Attorney-General, and other High Court authorities.

Justice Wright’s tenure on the High Court, which began with her appointment on April 26, 2016, was characterised by her dedication to justice and service to the nation.

Her work in both Freetown and provincial districts has left a lasting impact on the country’s legal landscape.
