Joint Border Survey Planned with Guinea

By Mariama Bundu

The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Kemoh Sesay, has provided an account of recent events in Falaba involving Sierra Leonean and Guinean soldiers.

He explained that Sierra Leonean personnel were preparing to construct a structure on land allocated by the local Paramount Chief when around ten Guinean soldiers, accompanied by a Guinean Paramount Chief, halted the work, claiming encroachment.

The Guinean forces later returned with over 300 personnel, leading to the arrest of 16 Sierra Leonean security personnel without resistance.

Major General Sesay praised the professionalism of the Sierra Leonean Captain on the ground for choosing de-escalation over confrontation.

He confirmed that all personnel were safely released and their weapons returned intact.

To prevent future disputes, Major General Sesay said that a comprehensive joint border survey will be conducted along the entire Sierra Leone–Guinea boundary, covering Kambia, Koinadugu, Falaba, Kono, and Kailahun districts.

The survey is expected to resolve border issues conclusively.
