The National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Liaoning Xinchi Industrial Development Company Ltd to explore investment opportunities in Sierra Leone’s tourism and infrastructure sectors.

The announcement was made by NASSIT Director General, Mohamed Fuaad Daboh, during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Mohamed Rahman Swaray, at his New England office in Freetown.

DG Daboh explained that the partnership follows ongoing efforts to implement PricewaterhouseCoopers’ recommendations and strengthen NASSIT’s investment portfolio.

He said the Chinese investors have shown strong interest in redeveloping and upgrading key hotel facilities, including the Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel and the Golden Tulip Kimbima Hotel.

He noted that the signed MOU marks the beginning of what NASSIT believes will be a productive partnership that will foster economic growth and create new opportunities for Sierra Leoneans.

Minister Rado Swaray welcomed the move, describing it as a “golden opportunity” and reaffirming the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for investment, in line with President Julius Maada Bio’s vision of moving Sierra Leone toward middle-income status.

Speaking for Liaoning Xinchi, Chairman Zhao Hai Feng thanked NASSIT for the partnership and expressed confidence in the success of the proposed projects.

NASSIT says the collaboration echoes its ongoing commitment to improving the institution’s performance and contributing to national development.
