From Rumors to Reality: Njala University Students Praise Administration for Major Road, Water, Electricity, and Infrastructure Developments

Amid circulating rumors of corruption surrounding the current administration of Njala University, our investigative team—comprising journalists from various campus newspapers—conducted an unannounced visit to both the Moconda and Bo campuses to verify the claims firsthand. The tour was carried out without prior notice to university officials, including the Vice-Chancellor, to ensure impartial and credible reporting.

During the visit, students expressed overwhelming support for the administration, highlighting substantial infrastructural and service improvements across the campuses. Key developments observed included:

Construction Projects

A new student canteen is under construction at the Moconda campus, sponsored by the Vice-Chancellor and the administration. The facility already features 100 new benches and tables, with plans to add another 100 benches and paint the area.

Water Supply Improvements

Multiple water tanks, each holding 1,000 liters, have been installed, alongside solar-powered boreholes drilled in collaboration with SALWACO. Alumni contributions, including a hand-dug well for Matturi Hostel, have further enhanced access to safe water for students.

Electricity Upgrades

The Moconda campus now operates a 500 KVA generator for eight hours daily, complemented by solar panels providing 24-hour electricity to key buildings, including the John Kamara Building, the Secretariat, and Njala Hostel.

Classroom and Furniture Enhancements

Old Chinese tables and benches have been replaced with durable wooden furniture accommodating five students each. Additionally, a newly constructed two-story classroom building now provides seating for over 3,200 students.
