A team of Spanish medical specialists from the Surgeons in Action Foundation has paid a courtesy visit to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. William Fayia Sellu, following their arrival in Sierra Leone to conduct free surgical operations at the Police Hospital in Kingtom.

Introducing the delegation, the Medical Superintendent of the Police Hospital, ASP Dr. John Mumuneh Konteh, said the visit marks the Foundation’s 12th medical mission to Sierra Leone in the last three years. He thanked the IGP for his continuous support, noting that his leadership has helped improve the hospital’s facilities and overall healthcare delivery for police officers and the public.
Dr. Konteh disclosed that the visiting surgeons plan to treat more than 200 patients, handling conditions such as goitre, lipoma, hernia, appendicitis, and other surgical cases.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Team Lead, Dr. Eduardo Pera Del Pozo, expressed appreciation to the Sierra Leone Police medical staff and the IGP for the warm reception and ongoing cooperation. He said the Foundation carries out similar free surgical missions in several African countries and remains committed to working with local medical teams to improve patient care.
In his remarks, IGP Sellu praised the Surgeons in Action Foundation for its continued humanitarian support and dedication to providing free medical services at its own expense. He described the partnership as beneficial to both the Sierra Leone Police and the general public, noting that past missions have attracted patients from neighbouring countries, including Liberia, Guinea and Côte d’Ivoire.
The IGP also highlighted the transformation of the Police Hospital into a modern healthcare facility, attributing part of the progress to donations and technical support from the Spanish surgeons. He later presented the visiting team with medical certificates authorising them to practise in Sierra Leone in line with national regulations.
The visit ended with a group photograph with the delegation.
