First Lady Wins ‘Champion of Change’ Award

Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, First Lady of Sierra Leone, has been awarded the Just Right Champion of Change Award at a high-level event on child marriage held on the margins of the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The award, presented by advocacy group Just Right for Children (JRC), recognises the First Lady’s tireless efforts to end child marriage and promote the rights and dignity of children around the world.

In her acceptance speech, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio described the honour as a call to action, highlighting the damaging effects of child marriage on girls’ education, health, and future opportunities.

“We must strengthen global cooperation to end harmful practices against children,” she said, reaffirming Sierra Leone’s commitment to child protection.

She also pledged to continue working with international partners to create a safer world where every child is free from violence, abuse, and discrimination.
