Experts Convene to Finalize Health Survey Questionnaires

Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and with technical support from ICF, has launched a four-day workshop to review and adapt questionnaires for the upcoming Sierra Leone Demographic and Health Survey (SLDHS).

The workshop began on 11 March 2026 at the Swiss Hotel, Babadorie Junction, Lumley.

The workshop brings together key stakeholders, technical experts, and sector representatives to finalize survey questionnaires that will guide the nationwide data collection exercise.

The Deputy Statistician General of Stats SL, Lansana Kpewolo Kanneh, emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts to ensure the successful execution of the survey, despite preparations underway for the 2026 Population and Housing Census.

Representing the Ministry of Health, Dr. Tom Sesay highlighted that the survey data will be critical for health planning, policy formulation, and service delivery across the country.

Representatives from UNFPA and ICF also underscored the need for credible and reliable data to support national development and improve health outcomes.

The workshop provides a platform for technical contributions from experts, including the Directors of Demographic Health & Social Statistics and Communication & Public Relations, to ensure that the final questionnaires are robust, contextually appropriate, and aligned with international survey standards.

The SLDHS is a major national exercise aimed at generating up-to-date information on population dynamics, maternal and child health, nutrition, fertility, mortality, and other key health and demographic indicators.

The survey results will support evidence-based government policies and development planning in Sierra Leone.
