ECSL Boss Seeks Police Support

The newly approved National Returning Officer and Chairman of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone, Edmond Sylvester Alpha, has paid a courtesy visit to the Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, to strengthen cooperation on electoral security.

The meeting took place on Tuesday, 17 March 2026, at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess in Kingtom, Freetown. Mr Alpha commended the Sierra Leone Police for its continued support to the Commission, especially in providing security during elections.

He said the visit was also to reaffirm public confidence in his appointment, noting that criticism often comes with leadership changes. Mr Alpha disclosed that the Commission is working on a five-year strategic plan and key policies in line with national recommendations, with support from international partners.

Mr Alpha stressed that security is essential for credible elections and called for continued collaboration with the police to ensure a safe environment for all stakeholders.

In response, IGP Sellu congratulated Mr Alpha and assured him of the police’s full support. He said commanders across the country have been instructed to work closely with ECSL officials to ensure peaceful and secure elections.

The meeting highlighted the importance of strong partnership between the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone and the Sierra Leone Police in promoting free, fair, and credible elections.
