The DAQVAH Charity Foundation, Sierra Leone’s leading local Islamic charitable organization, has once again demonstrated its commitment to education and community development with the unveiling of two newly constructed schools in Port Loko District — a Junior Secondary School in Mabain Village and a Primary School in Rogbaray Ka Bangura Village.

In Mabain Village, the Foundation officially opened the DAQVAH Islamic Academy Junior Secondary School, a much-needed facility that will serve children who previously had to walk nearly eight miles to access secondary education. The project, which began in 2022 with a makeshift structure, was fully funded by donations mobilized from members and donors through the Foundation’s innovative charitable strategies.

During the ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of DAQVAH Charity Foundation, Alhaji Abdul Rahman Jalloh, gave an inspiring background of the project citing the community desperation for a school. He highlighted the Foundation’s mission to bridge educational gaps in underserved rural communities. “Our vision is to bring education closer to every child, especially those in remote areas who face daily struggles just to learn,” Mr. Jalloh said, while thanking all donors and volunteers who supported the initiative especially the DAQVAH District Coordinator, Ayoub Joaque.
The event was graced by the Member of Parliament, Hon. Ishmail Sankoh Yillah who commended DAQVAH for its impactful intervention. In his statement, the MP urged community members to take full ownership of the school, maintain it well, and ensure that their children make the best use of the opportunity. He mentioned that in his entire life, he has never in his life witnessed a program where a school is commissioned and the children are provided with school packs which included bags, uniforms, shoes, books etc. He later performed the symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a guided tour of the school facilities.
In another joyous occasion, the DAQVAH team proceeded to Rogbaray Ka Bangura, where they officially opened the DAQVAH Islamic Academy Primary School. The community welcomed the delegation with songs and jubilation, expressing heartfelt gratitude for the Foundation’s support.
Speaking during the event, Pa Abdul Karim Bangura, a community elder who led the initiative, recounted the challenges children previously faced—walking along unsafe highways to attend distant schools. He thanked DAQVAH Charity Foundation for rescuing their children and bringing education right to their doorstep. He also thanked his son Abdul Karim Bangura who contacted DAQVAH on behalf of his community.
School packs including uniforms and school bags were distributed to 73 pupils.
The Executive Finance Director, Madam Mariam Sedik Kamara, officially commissioned the school by cutting the ribbon and unveiling the school badge. The ceremony concluded with prayers of blessing and appreciation offered by community members, thanking Allah for DAQVAH’s continuous dedication to service and education.
With these new schools, DAQVAH Charity Foundation continues to strengthen its legacy as a beacon of hope, empowering rural communities through access to quality Islamic and secular education across Sierra Leone.
