CSOs Condemn Lahai Marah’s War Rhetoric

By Mohamed Kamara

Seven civil society organizations (CSOs) have condemned a statement made by Hon. Lahai Marah, chairman of Falaba district and former APC Member of Parliament, in which he declared his readiness to “fight, resist, and engage private military actors.”

The statement was made during a party meeting in Falaba on Monday, 15 November 2025.

The CSOs, including the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), described the remarks as irresponsible, reckless, and inflammatory.

They warned that such rhetoric could undermine peace, national stability, and public trust, while endangering citizens.

The organizations called on the All People’s Congress (APC) to disassociate itself from Mr. Marah’s statement and to take disciplinary action to prevent the recurrence of such remarks.

They commended the Political Party Registration Commission (PPRC) for its swift intervention against the APC and urged the commission to remain steadfast in promoting accountability and maintaining a safe political environment.

“This is an attack on democracy at a time Sierra Leone is working to strengthen democratic institutions and rebuild public confidence,” the CSOs stated, stressing the need for politicians, supporters, and the public to exercise civility, caution, and patriotism in public statements.

In response, Hon. Lahai Marah denied the allegations, stating, “I want to reiterate that the video circulating is doctored. I urge CSOs and PPRC to listen to the original video, where I emphasized peace and unity while raising concerns about attempts to rig the 2028 elections.

“Let’s focus on implementing the Tripartite Recommendations and turning them into legislative processes for the betterment of Sierra Leone and one that will uphold the peace, unity, and stability of the country.”
