Chief Justice Urges Inter-Religious Council to Champion Peace

The Honourable Chief Justice of Sierra Leone, Justice Komba Kamanda, has called on the Executive Members of the Inter-Religious Council to act as champions of peace and boldly speak out against actions that could threaten national stability.

The Council, led by its President, Archbishop Edward Tamba Charles, visited the Chief Justice to discuss national cohesion, justice delivery, and preparations ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Justice Kamanda urged the Council to engage stakeholders and the public to prevent divisive rhetoric and acts that could undermine peace.

He also encouraged them to condemn anyone who attempts to incite violence or unrest.

The Chief Justice highlighted growing polarization in the country and called for promotion of patriotism, nationalism, and love for Sierra Leone.

]He reaffirmed the judiciary’s independence and commitment to impartial justice, stressing that political status should not influence court decisions.

Archbishop Charles congratulated Justice Kamanda on his recent appointment as a Judge of the Residual Special Court and pledged the Council’s commitment to promoting peace, unity, and constructive engagement on sensitive national matters.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to collaboration in promoting justice, accountability, and sustainable peace across Sierra Leone.

In attendance were senior members of the judiciary and religious leaders, including Supreme Court Judge Justice Alusine Sesay, Court of Appeal Judge Justice Jamesina King, and the Amir of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, Musa Mewa.
