President Dr. Julius Maada Bio has performed a symbolic harvest at a 60-hectare maize farm in Taiama, Moyamba District, reaffirming his commitment to agricultural transformation under the government’s Feed Salone initiative.

The farm, owned by young Sierra Leonean agripreneur Sherilyn Cowan through her company, Sherilyn’s Enterprise for National Change (SENC), is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
The President praised Sherilyn’s leadership in agribusiness and described her as a shining example of youth involvement in agriculture.
“Feed Salone is not just a government programme, it is a call to action for every Sierra Leonean. If we all grow what we eat and invest in agriculture, we can secure our nation’s future,” President Bio said.

He added that agriculture remains a powerful tool for job creation, food security, and national development, especially when led by innovative young people like Sherilyn.
The event was attended by government officials, local authorities, and community members who welcomed the President’s visit and applauded the ongoing efforts to make farming profitable and sustainable.

The symbolic harvest formed part of President Bio’s two-day field tour to assess progress made in the second year of the Feed Salone programme.
His tour also included stops at the Rokupr Research Station, Mile 91 National Seed Testing Laboratory, and his own 1,000-acre cashew farm.
