The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Hannah Isatta Sao-Kpato Macarthy, has officially handed over land title documents to 11 Project Affected Persons (PAPs) whose properties were impacted by the Angola Town Water Supply Project.

The ceremony took place on 12 March 2026 at the Ministry’s offices in Freetown.

The project, implemented by the Guma Valley Water Company under the Freetown WASH and Aquatic Environment Revamping Project (WASHAERP), aims to provide reliable water supply to Angola Town and surrounding communities, serving more than 70,000 residents.

Speaking at the event, Minister Macarthy emphasized that land matters are highly sensitive and must be handled with fairness and respect for citizens’ rights.

She reassured beneficiaries that the government remains committed to resolving all outstanding resettlement issues, with remaining PAPs to receive their land titles soon.

The Managing Director of Guma Valley Water Company, Mariwan Kallon, explained that the project was designed to address the growing water demand in Freetown, noting that the city’s population has increased to nearly two million, putting pressure on the existing Guma Dam.

PAP representative Musa Turay thanked the government and agencies involved for fair treatment but requested expedited processing of land titles for the remaining 18 affected persons and assurances against future displacement.

The event was attended by senior officials from the Ministry and Guma Valley Water Company, highlighting the government’s commitment to delivering essential infrastructure while protecting citizens’ rights and ensuring fair compensation.
