Gbondapi Health Centre Gets Major Facelift

Minister of Health, Dr. Austin Demby, has commissioned the fully rehabilitated Gbondapi Community Health Centre (CHC) in Pujehun District, providing improved healthcare facilities for mothers, newborns and families across Pujehun and Bonthe districts.

The rehabilitation marks a major improvement for the facility, which previously operated without running water and electricity and had a leaking roof, despite providing essential maternal and newborn healthcare services.

Last year, the centre recorded 379 births, averaging approximately one delivery per day.

Established in 1988, Gbondapi CHC is a Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC) facility serving more than 9,000 people across 14 communities.

The facility also receives referrals from 11 riverine health facilities in two chiefdoms in Pujehun District and three health facilities in Bonthe District.

Gbondapi serves as an important healthcare centre for communities that rely on river transportation to access medical services. The nearest referral hospital, Pujehun Government Hospital, is approximately 19.2 kilometres away.

The rehabilitation is expected to improve the environment for healthcare workers and provide mothers, newborns and other patients with better access to essential health services.
