Vice President Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has called on West and Central African countries to invest in resilient infrastructure, particularly in energy and food security, to strengthen their economies against global economic shocks.

He made the call while addressing the 6th Market for Agricultural Innovations and Technologies (MITA 2026), hosted in Freetown.
The Vice President said countries must prioritise energy and food security to build stronger economies capable of withstanding external economic pressures, especially those that disproportionately affect smaller economies.
He also emphasised the importance of regional cooperation and increased trade among West African countries, noting that stronger collaboration could unlock the region’s economic potential and promote shared prosperity.
Dr Juldeh Jalloh called on member countries of the Conference of Agricultural Research Leaders in West and Central Africa (CORAF) to work together to strengthen regional markets and expand opportunities for agricultural innovation and technology.
He said the region had significant potential but stressed that countries must collaborate to translate that potential into tangible economic benefits for their people.
MITA 2026 brings attention to agricultural innovations and technologies that can support agricultural development, improve food security and strengthen economic cooperation across the region.
