GCC Director Pays Courtesy Call on H.E. Ambassador Mohammed Barrie

The Director of Asia, Africa and the Pacific Political and Negotiations Affairs for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Al-Ibrahim Hussain Omar, on Monday paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Ambassador Mohammed Barrie at the Chancery of the Sierra Leone Embassy in Riyadh.

In a warm reception, His Excellency Ambassador Mohammed Barrie welcomed Mr. Hussain Omar to the Chancery. He stated that Sierra Leone, under the leadership of His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, is on the right trajectory, making steady progress in the Big Five Game Changers and remains open for business. The President’s flagship agenda focuses on transforming agriculture through Feed Salone to ensure food security, investing in human capital development in education and health, creating youth employment and jobs, expanding infrastructure and boosting economic competitiveness, and driving technology and innovation for digitalization and improved public service delivery.

“The Sierra Leone Embassy, under my leadership, along with my able and dynamic Deputy Ambassador, Abdul Aziz Turay, is ready to work with the GCC, and I am designating him as the focal point. The importance of Sierra Leone becoming a partner with the GCC lies in gaining access to six industrialized Middle Eastern countries,” he said.

On his part, the Director of Asia, Africa and the Pacific Political and Negotiations Affairs, Al-Ibrahim Hussain Omar, commended Ambassador Barrie and his team for the warm hospitality. He said the GCC is actively involved in Africa through massive foreign direct investment, infrastructure financing, agriculture, and the pursuit of critical minerals. He added that he was looking forward to working with the leadership of the Embassy to expand Oman’s bilateral cooperation with Sierra Leone.

Mr. Hussain Omar is a national of the Sultanate of Oman with a wide network of business and political connections in Oman, and he is very passionate about providing assistance to Ambassador Barrie in strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.

Sierra Leone’s Deputy Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Abdul Aziz Turay, assured Mr. Al-Ibrahim Hussain Omar that the Mission is looking forward to a fruitful relationship with the GCC, adding that Sierra Leone has so much potential to offer.

The meeting concluded with Ambassador Barrie presenting a copy of the 5th Edition of the Embassy Newsletter to the GCC Director.
