Minister of Sports Commends Leone Stars for Victory Over Liberia

The Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James-Teima, has commended the Leone Stars for their 1-0 victory over Liberia in an international friendly match played on Saturday at the Southern Arena in Bo City.

Abdul Jarju Kabia scored the decisive goal in the 66th minute after a fine assist from Sallieu Tarawallie, securing the win for Sierra Leone.

Reacting to the result, the Minister described the victory as a triumph for President Julius Maada Bio and the people of Sierra Leone.

“Let me thank President Bio for his continued financial support, which has contributed to achievements like this. The Leone Stars will continue to make you and the people of Sierra Leone proud sir,” she said.

Madam James-Teima also expressed appreciation to the Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA) and SLFA President Babadi Kamara for their contributions in ensuring the successful organization of the match.

During half-time, the newly appointed Leone Stars Head Coach, Didier Gomez Da Rosa, was officially presented to football fans by Sports Minister Madam Augusta James-Teima, SLFA President Babadi Kamara, Vice President 1 Alie Badara Tarawallie, NSA Executive Director Mohamed Alphaka Conteh Esq., Deputy Minister Kai Lawrence Mbayo and other officials.

The coach joined the delegation in walking around the pitch and waving to supporters at the Southern Arena in Bo, earning a warm reception from the crowd.

The Minister is currently in Monrovia, Liberia, to motivate the national team ahead of their return leg encounter against the Lone Star of Liberia on Tuesday 9th June 2026.
