Kyrgyz Ambassador Seeks Sierra Leone’s Support for UN Security Council Bid

The Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, H.E. Ulukbek Maripov, has paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Ambassador Mohammed Barrie at the Sierra Leone Embassy in Riyadh.

During the visit, Ambassador Barrie welcomed his counterpart and reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations with the Kyrgyz Republic.

Ambassador Maripov informed that the Kyrgyz Republic is contesting for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term, with elections scheduled for June 2026 in New York. He noted that his visit was aimed at seeking Sierra Leone’s support for the bid.

In response, Ambassador Barrie thanked him for the engagement and assured that the request would be forwarded to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Sierra Leone for consideration.

The two diplomats also discussed areas of mutual interest aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations between Sierra Leone and the Kyrgyz Republic.

The meeting concluded on a cordial note, with both sides expressing commitment to continued diplomatic cooperation.
