The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) has pledged to strengthen gender equality in the media following the launch of a Gender Audit Report by BBC Media Action in collaboration with the Media Reform Coordinating Group (MRCG) at Country Lodge, Freetown.

Speaking at the event, SLAJ Secretary General Edward Fara Marah said the report reflects both progress and gaps in ensuring women’s voices are fairly represented in newsrooms and media leadership.

He noted that journalists have a responsibility to promote inclusivity and equity in their work.

Marah commended BBC Media Action and MRCG for their commitment to advancing gender equality and pledged that SLAJ will work to implement the report’s recommendations through training, policy advocacy, mentorship, and institutional reforms.

He called on media stakeholders to use the findings as a tool for reform, aiming for a sector where women and men have equal opportunities to contribute, lead, and thrive.
