Minister Mahoi & EU Strengthen Partnerships for Women’s Empowerment

The Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs, Dr. Isata Mahoi, has held a productive bilateral meeting with Her Excellency Hadja Lahbib, Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness, and Crisis Management of the European Commission, on the margins of the 70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women in New York.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between Sierra Leone and the European Union in advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Discussions highlighted ongoing efforts to address gender-based violence, with particular emphasis on sustaining and expanding the impact of the Spotlight Initiative, a global partnership dedicated to eliminating violence against women and girls.

Both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening cooperation, supporting policies and programs that protect women and girls, and ensuring inclusive opportunities that enable women to participate fully in leadership, development, and decision-making.

The engagement further underscores Sierra Leone’s commitment to working with international partners to promote dignity, equality, and safety for all women and girls.
