The Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, and UNDP Resident Representative, Mr. Frederick Ampiah, conducted a high-level assessment of the Sierra Leone Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy (SILEA) at Hastings on Wednesday, 4 February 2026.

The visit aimed to evaluate existing facilities, identify critical gaps, and outline priority areas for development as part of plans to upgrade SILEA to meet international standards. The exercise forms part of ongoing collaboration between the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and UNDP to modernise police training and strengthen institutional capacity.
Mr. Ampiah said the initiative seeks to transform SILEA into a world-class training academy, with improvements including construction of standard pavilions with VIP and sanitation facilities, paving of the drill square, and rehabilitation of key infrastructure.

IGP Sellu described the feasibility tour as thorough and impactful, noting that the assessment provides a clear understanding of the academy’s current condition and will guide future partnerships and interventions.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing SILEA, aiming to establish it as a centre of excellence for peacekeeping and law enforcement training in Sierra Leone.
