The commissioning ceremony, held on Friday, 16 January 2026, attracted government ministers, parliamentarians, traditional leaders, heads of parastatals, and members of the public. Speaking at the event, President Bio described the opening of the office as a significant move toward expanding social security coverage across the country.

He said the new office demonstrated his government’s commitment to decentralisation and ensuring that essential services are accessible to citizens at the community level. The President encouraged residents of Moyamba to make full use of the facility, noting that social security is about welfare, dignity, and protection for all workers.

President Bio also disclosed that NASSIT was working on plans to introduce a pension scheme for the informal sector, targeting groups such as bike riders, farmers, carpenters, and petty traders. He further revealed that his government was in the process of establishing a Social Protection Regulatory Authority to regulate and strengthen the social protection sector.

The Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Mohamed Rahman Swarray, said the opening of the Moyamba office was in line with the President’s vision of bringing public services closer to the people. He announced that the national minimum wage would increase from Le 800 to Le 1,200, effective 1 April 2026.

NASSIT Director General, Mohamed Fuaad Daboh, said the decision to establish a district office in Moyamba followed a presidential directive and extensive consultations. He noted that the office would improve access to NASSIT services, enhance compliance, and support employees, employers, and pensioners in the district and surrounding areas.

The ceremony was chaired by the Resident Minister South, Chief John Abu, while Paramount Chief Foday Momodu Gulama delivered the welcome address. The event ended with President Bio leading a guided tour of the new NASSIT building.
