The Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Segepoh Solomon Thomas Esq., joined schoolchildren and world leaders to celebrate World Children’s Day under this year’s theme: “My Days, My Right.”

During a special sitting of Parliament, the Chamber was filled with pupils, creating a vibrant celebration of youth. In his address, Speaker Thomas welcomed the children, saying their presence “sends a clear message: your voices matter.” He emphasized that children are key stakeholders in the nation and that the day affirms every child’s right to participation and a future shaped by their own dreams.
The Speaker announced that Parliament will host a National Children’s Dialogue at 2 PM in Committee Room One, co-organised with parliamentary committees including Health, Gender, and Social Welfare, to discuss issues affecting children.
Hon. Abdul Sulaiman Marray-Conteh, Chairman of the Legislative Committee, also welcomed the children and highlighted a special celebration to follow in Committee Room One with selected committees.
Opposition Deputy Leader 1, Hon. Daniel Brima Koroma, described the children as the nation’s future leaders. He encouraged them to take education seriously, referencing President Bio’s Free Quality Education programme, while reminding pupils of their responsibility to study and succeed. The event underscored Parliament’s commitment to giving children a platform and ensuring their rights are heard at the highest level of governance
