The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) Hospital at Kingtom Barracks has received a major upgrade with the commissioning of new eye care equipment and the construction of a modern mortuary.

During a ceremony held on Thursday, 16 October 2025, the hospital’s Deputy Director, ASP Dr. John Mumuneh Konteh, revealed that advanced ophthalmology tools, including a slit lamp, ophthalmoscope, and pen torch, had been delivered. These will greatly improve the hospital’s ability to detect and treat eye conditions.
To mark this development, the hospital will offer free eye screening and eyeglasses on Wednesday, 22 October 2025, targeting hundreds of people, especially those who cannot afford eye care.
Dr. Konteh also announced the ongoing construction of a new mortuary, which will enhance the police’s forensic capacity by enabling thorough post-mortem examinations.
In addition, the hospital is preparing to welcome a Spanish medical team from the Surgeons in Action Foundation next month to carry out free surgical operations. Registration is already open at Kingtom and SLP medical centres nationwide.
These upgrades are part of Inspector General William Fayia Sellu’s broader plan to modernize police health services and ensure quality care for both officers and the wider community.
