Bandajuma Village, Kailahun District – A hunting trip turned tragic on 12th September 2025, when one hunter accidentally shot and killed his companion in the forest of Bandajuma Village, Malema Chiefdom.
According to local reports, the shooter mistook his fellow hunter for an animal in the dense bush and fired a fatal shot. The identity of both men has been confirmed, and the shooter is currently under investigation by the Daru Police Division.
The Sierra Leone Police in Kailahun District have confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing to understand the full circumstances.
Community elders and civil society groups have called for increased awareness about hunting safety and proper identification procedures to prevent similar accidents. With hunting being a key livelihood in many rural areas, there are renewed calls for better regulation and safety training for hunters.
