The Ministry of Information and Civic Education held its weekly press briefing at the Miatta Civic Centre, where the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alhaji Timothy Musa Kabba, provided updates on the ongoing Middle East conflict and its implications for Sierra Leoneans in the Gulf region.

Minister Kabba told the country that President Julius Maada Bio, in his capacity as Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), has called for de-escalation and restraint among the parties involved.

He said the President urged all sides to act in full compliance with the United Nations Charter and international law, stressing the importance of renewed diplomatic engagement through both international and regional frameworks as a pathway toward a peaceful resolution.

The Minister mentioned that ECOWAS’s position is in line with that of the African Union, reinforcing a united African stance.

In response to escalating tensions, Minister Kabba announced that Sierra Leone has successfully evacuated 24 nationals and embassy staff from the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Armenia.

The evacuees include 14 students, one private citizen, three Sierra Leonean diplomats, and six locally recruited embassy staff in Tehran.

The Ministry of Information and Civic Education assured the public that the Ministry continues to closely monitor developments across the Gulf region to safeguard the welfare and security of Sierra Leoneans abroad.
