The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has announced the official opening of the WAEC portal for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) Batch Registration System (BRS).

In a public notice issued from its headquarters at New England Ville, Freetown, the Ministry informed school heads, parents, candidates, and the general public that the portal is now open for the uploading of approved candidates.
According to MBSSE, a total of 163,997 candidates have been cleared and confirmed following a nationwide verification exercise and have been submitted to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) for upload onto the BRS portal.
However, 55,174 candidates were identified as unmatched due to issues such as incorrect records, duplication, or incomplete information.
The Ministry noted that out of 74,682 previously unmatched candidates, 19,505 have already been cleared.
School heads have been directed to urgently review and correct discrepancies and submit verified lists to the Ministry for approval before uploading to the WAEC portal. The Ministry also emphasized that the government is willing to pay examination fees for all genuine and eligible candidates.
Additionally, all school heads are required to sign an official undertaking document—approved by Parliament on 10 February 2026—at MBSSE offices nationwide. The document holds school authorities accountable for the accuracy and integrity of candidate data submitted for WASSCE registration.
The Ministry warned that the WAEC BRS portal will close on 28 February 2026, stressing that there will be no extension to the deadline. Schools that fail to complete registration within the stipulated timeframe risk their candidates not being registered for the 2026 WASSCE.
MBSSE has called on all school authorities to treat the exercise with urgency and responsibility to ensure a smooth and credible examination process.
